Learn more about this easy and quick way to get a dental crown in Winston Salem.

In the past, if you wanted to get a dental crown you had to come in for several visits. We would need to take Crownsimpressions and prepare the tooth and then send the impressions to a lab where they would make your crown. In the meantime, you would be left wearing a bulky temporary crown for weeks. But so much has changed now that your Winston Salem, NC dentist Dr. Denise Perrotta can give you dental crowns in just one day!

Q. What is CEREC?

A. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and this system uses CAD/CAM technology to create dental restorations like inlays, onlays, dental crowns or veneer in just one visit. This state-of-the-art technology creates natural, tooth-colored dental crowns to restore your damaged tooth.

CEREC technology contains a camera, computer and milling machine all in one.

Q. What are the benefits of getting same-day crowns?

A. When you come into our Winston Salem dental office for CEREC crowns you can expect some of these advantages:

  • Less time spent in our office
  • Only one dental visit versus requiring multiple treatments with traditional crowns
  • Since CEREC crowns are made entirely from porcelain there is less chance of an allergy or immune response
  • Less natural tooth structure is removed prior to cementing the CEREC crown

Q. What is the procedure like?

A. After your tooth has been reshaped and prepared for the crown, the CEREC camera takes images of your tooth. These images are then immediately uploaded onto our computer to create a virtual model of your dental crown or restoration.

We will then choose a porcelain block that matches the shade of the rest of your teeth and place it in the milling machine where your crown will then be fabricated. Once the crown is created we will give it a good polishing before fitting it and cementing it over your tooth.

How long will it take to get same-day crowns?

It can take anywhere from one to two hours for the entire CEREC procedure.
